*This Book is annotated (it contains a detailed biography of the author). *An active Table of Contents has been added by the publisher for a better customer experience. *This book has been checked and corrected for spelling errors. This book is strictly for those with an interest in either the later life of Conan Doyle or the spiritualist movement in the first part of the twentieth century. The book describes the author's lecture tour of Australia and New Zealand in the early 1920s. The content is more concerned with Conan Doyle's experiences on his travels rather than the details of his lectures. In between descriptions of the places he visits and the people he meets, he provides occasional substantiation (in his opinion) for the validity of his spiritualist beliefs.

The Wanderings of a Spiritualist Annotated Illustrated Sir Arthur Conan Doyle 9781520836171 Books

Conan Doyle is a fine writer--that's why we like the Sherlock Holmes stories so much. So it makes sense that his account of a voyage to Australia and New Zealand, made in 1920, to lecture on our survival of death, would be enjoyable. It's a fine travelogue, with excellent descriptions of scenery, and excursions, but much more. Conan Doyle is interested in almost everything, extremely intelligent and thoughtful, and widely read. His comments on the society and politics of the places he goes to, the race relations, the press, how WWI (just over when he made the trip) had affected and been affected by the countries he visited are all penetrating and thought-provoking and still highly relevant. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and recommend it highly.

I love ACD and Sherlock...but this one is a bit hard to get into...I keep trying, but it's not holding my attention very well...Time to move on I guess.
ok
This aptly-titled, meandering journal documents Doyle's travel to Australia on behalf of the Spiritualist movement of the early 20th century. While readers seeking a deeper understanding of Doyle may find value here, those looking for deeper understanding of Spiritualism may not.
