Somebody listed Diana Palmer's writing as Same Old Thing. Yes in some respects it is. I do appreciate, however, the change of characters, the settings are somewhat different in this book. And I also appreciate that it was in an older time in America. She still does a good job of describing the way people treated other people harshly. She also portrays her heroin as a smart, sexy woman. I appreciate that. I wish she would create more characters like the ones here.

Diana Palmer is a great writer of western stories. This book is about the old west strong men and women. Love and heart ache.
I have read about 30 or so of Diana Palmers books and this was one of my favorites. Good story. It takes place around 1900. Good strong characters. A joy too read.

PALMER'S "JACOBSVILLE" ROMANCES BUT THIS ONE SET AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY, MADE ME REALLY THINK ABOUT LIFE AND TIMES ON THE FRONTIER IN 1902/3.AN EYE-OPENER IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT WOMEN COULD OR COULDN'T DO AT THIS TIME YOU ARE IN FOR A GREAT READ.GOSSIP COULD KILL YOUR REPUTATION BUT "NOELLE" HAD THE SPIRIT AND HER MAN HAD THE GUTS (ALBEIT HARD HEAD-IT-LY) TO PERSEVERE. One of my favorite of Ms. Palmer's historical Westerns. I really like how she delves into the history of the characters of her modern day romances. A real KEEPER!
Curse my inability to put down a book when I start it. I always have to finish a book no matter how terrible it is and I find myself coming up with whatever excuse I can find during the day to avoid another page of this. The dialogue is repetitive, the story slow, the elegance of the time period is not captured at all rather the the absurdity of the mordernizing mindsets...I just don't like it at all so boring! and it's a 19 year old inexperienced naive girl falling for a 36 year old...there is something kinda creepy about that whole picture.
